History

In 1998, a group of six women came together with a single mission - to make a difference in the lives of people with mental and physical challenges, and to provide support and resources to their families. Today, KEJI continues to work toward meeting our founder's original goals of

- Providing social support resources.
- Collectively utilizing parents of all age groups to share their experiences, resources, and dreams.
- Finding new ways to help our children.
- Providing legal assistance.
- Networking for jobs.
- Lobbying for special needs issues.
- Assist with updating and disseminating available data to assist  individuals  with specific needs and their families.
- Providing scholarships to increase the opportunity for individuals with
specific needs to pursue post-secondary education and/or facilitate mainstreaming into independent living.

In 2003, with the death of KEJI’s founder, Verma Brown, KEJI took on an expanded vision. Never the less, KEJI continues to work toward meeting our founder's original goals with an updated focus to meet the current needs of community members who have
specific needs.
